Infant Found Dead in Augusta Home; Second Child Hospitalized
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded early Tuesday morning to a residence on the 2200 block of Ward Avenue following the discovery of a deceased 16-month-old child.
Officials pronounced the child dead at approximately 5:15 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, a second child from the same residence was transported by emergency medical services to the Children’s Hospital. The condition of the second child remains unknown at this time.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) confirmed its involvement in the investigation, stating that the Sheriff’s Office routinely investigates circumstances surrounding the deaths of children in the county. Investigators emphasized that the case is still in its early stages, and no additional information has been released.
No arrests have been made, and the RCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to lead the inquiry.
Authorities have not disclosed any further details related to the incident.
