Largest Methamphetamine Bust in Augusta History Nets Richmond County Man
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Richmond County investigators have arrested a local man following what authorities are calling the largest methamphetamine bust in Augusta’s history.
Jaquez Sturgis faces charges of methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking after a series of coordinated search warrants were executed at three locations in Richmond County. The properties searched include residences on the 200 block of East Hale Street, the 100 block of Tybee Court, and an apartment complex on the 1300 block of Marks Church Road.
During the operations, law enforcement officials seized over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine and more than 2,300 grams of fentanyl. In addition to the drugs, officers recovered two firearms, a vehicle, and $18,346 in cash.
Authorities say the bust represents a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the Augusta area and underscores ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis and meth distribution in the region.
Sturgis remains in custody as investigators continue their work on the case.
