Fatal Crash on Mike Padgett Highway Claims Life of Augusta Man
AUGUSTA, Ga. — A fatal collision on Mike Padgett Highway early Wednesday morning has left one man dead and another hospitalized, according to officials with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred on the 3700 block of Mike Padgett Highway, where deputies responded to the scene around 7:45 a.m. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed that 58-year-old Andrew Mark Pregel of Augusta was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities report that the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of that driver has not been released.
Details about the circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been made public as the incident remains under investigation.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for several hours as law enforcement conducted an on-site investigation and cleared the roadway.
