Funeral Procession to Honor Fallen Deputy in Augusta, GA

AUGUSTA, GA – A funeral procession to honor a fallen deputy will take place on Monday, May 6, with the procession beginning at 11:20 AM from Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home located on Davis Road. The procession will travel through the heart of Augusta, drawing attention from both the local community and visitors.

The route will begin on Davis Road, then make a left turn onto Washington Road, where the procession will continue for almost five miles. It will conclude at the Performing Arts Center at Evans Towne Center Boulevard, where the funeral will be held.

To ensure the procession moves without interruption, Washington Road will be closed from 11:00 AM to Noon. As this is a highly trafficked area during the midday hours, those who regularly travel along this route are advised to seek alternate paths. The closure is expected to cause significant delays, particularly between 11 AM and Noon, when traffic will be rerouted.

Members of the community are encouraged to line the procession route as a show of respect for the fallen deputy. Local businesses and residents are expected to come together to pay their respects, with some offering support along the way.

Marc Yount, the owner of Marc Yount’s Tire Pros, has voiced his commitment to honoring the deputy. “It means a lot to us and our company, to our neighborhood, to our business,” Yount said. “It’s just very important that all of us respect and take part in what’s going on. We’ll be shut down during that time, and we invite anyone who needs to park to use our parking lot for a bit.”

The Sikes family, in honoring their loved one, has requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting first responders and military personnel.

As the procession moves through Augusta, the community’s support and respect for the fallen deputy will be evident, and the outpouring of solidarity will stand as a testament to the tight-knit nature of the area.
