Authorities Still Seeking Clues in 2023 Disappearance of Augusta Man

Augusta, Ga. — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is renewing its call for public assistance in the ongoing investigation into the 2023 disappearance of Bruce Damon Barker, Jr., a 46-year-old Augusta man last seen more than a year ago under suspicious circumstances.

Barker, who goes by his middle name “Damon,” was last seen at 2609 Milledgeville Road in Augusta in early 2023. Family members reported him missing shortly thereafter, expressing deep concern for his well-being due to his medical condition. Barker has cerebral palsy, which significantly limits the use of his left hand and gives him a highly distinctive walk—details that could help members of the public recognize him if seen.

In April 2023, Barker’s family spoke with local news outlet WJBF, pleading for answers and describing the emotional toll his disappearance has taken. They emphasized that Damon’s physical limitations would likely prevent him from leaving the area voluntarily or without assistance.

By July of the same year, the Sheriff’s Office had identified and interviewed three men in connection with both Barker’s disappearance and a related credit card fraud investigation. While authorities confirmed those individuals were questioned, no arrests have been announced, and Barker’s whereabouts remain unknown.

The case remains open and active, with investigators continuing to follow leads. The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information—no matter how minor it may seem—to come forward.

Anyone with information related to Bruce Damon Barker, Jr.’s disappearance is encouraged to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080 or (706) 821-1020.
