Walmart Surprises Augusta Firefighters with Appreciation Meal Ahead of Super Bowl Sunday

AUGUSTA, Ga. — As the Super Bowl approaches, most people are gearing up for the big game, but for Augusta’s firefighters, Sunday will be just another workday. In recognition of Firefighter Appreciation Week, Walmart decided to give back by surprising local fire departments with a thoughtful gesture.

On Thursday, Walmart presented firefighters at 20 department stations across Augusta with a special bundle designed to feed their crews during the busy week. The surprise delivery included wings, smoked sausages, rolls, chips, and much more—enough to feed a team of eight, the typical staffing at most fire stations.

Evan Scureman, a firefighter and soon-to-be firefighter of the year, reflected on what this gesture meant for him and his colleagues. “We share so much together — holidays, life events. We watch the games together, so we spend a lot of time together. It’s like being with your family. So, being able to sit like you would at home with your family and friends is kind of how we live our lives,” he shared.

Scureman’s words highlight the deep bonds formed among firefighters, who often spend long hours together in close quarters, supporting each other both on and off the job. While the public enjoys the Super Bowl with loved ones, first responders like Scureman will be working, ensuring the safety of the community.

The Walmart initiative not only provided a much-needed break for the hardworking firefighters but also served as a reminder of the essential role they play in the community. With moments like these, where they can share a meal together, they are reminded of the support they receive from those they serve.

As the Super Bowl gets underway on Sunday, Walmart’s thoughtful surprise has ensured that Augusta’s fire stations are filled with appreciation, camaraderie, and a little extra fuel for the shift ahead.
