Suspect Arrested in Grovetown Apartment Shooting, Second Suspect Still at Large

Grovetown, Ga. – A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Joiner Crossing Apartments in Grovetown on Tuesday afternoon. Isaiah Bautista, of Augusta, was apprehended by Grovetown police officers near Windsor Spring Road and Meadowbrook Drive, not far from the scene of the crime. Bautista was still in the vehicle that had been observed fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting took place.

Bautista was found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest and was taken into custody on multiple outstanding felony warrants from Richmond County and Reidsville, Georgia. He was transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, where he remains on the outstanding warrants. Authorities confirmed that additional warrants will be sought for Bautista in connection with the shooting incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as Grovetown police continue to search for a second suspect involved in the attack. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the apprehension of Bautista.

According to Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:02 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting a shooting at the 1000 block of Joiner Circle in the Joiner Crossing Apartments. When officers arrived at the scene around 5:34 p.m., they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest. The victim was conscious at the time of discovery and was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Authorities say his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The victim, who was not a resident of the apartment where the shooting occurred, told police that two unknown males had entered the apartment, and one of them opened fire, striking him in the chest. Surveillance footage from local cameras, including doorbell cameras, captured the suspects fleeing the scene on foot to a nearby vehicle.

Both suspects were reportedly wearing dark-colored hoodies, and one was also wearing a mask. A search of the area, including nearby railroad tracks, was conducted as officers looked for additional clues. At the time of the incident, several people were in the apartment, including an infant who was just feet away from the victim when he was shot. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the attack.

Chief Kitchens reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community and emphasized that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the second suspect.

Witnesses on the scene reported seeing a heavy police presence, with 17 police vehicles in the area around 6 p.m. Several officers were seen near the apartment, with crime scene tape surrounding the entryway as investigators worked to gather evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have asked anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
