Couple Arrested in Connection to 2001 Murder in Adairsville, Georgia

Cartersville, GA – After more than two decades, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged Gary Fowler, 74, and his wife, Mary Fowler, 73, both of Chatsworth, Georgia, with murder in connection to the death of Travis Silvers. The couple was taken into custody on Friday, April 11, 2025, in what authorities describe as a significant development in an active and ongoing investigation.

Silvers’ body was discovered on Saturday, March 10, 2001, in the parking lot of a Wendy’s restaurant in Adairsville, Georgia. He was found inside his truck, and the circumstances surrounding his death had remained a mystery for years. The recent arrests of the Fowlers, however, suggest that new evidence or developments have emerged, leading to charges against the couple.

Gary and Mary Fowler were booked into the Bartow County Jail, where they are currently being held. The GBI, along with the Bartow County Detective Unit, the Bartow Drug Task Force/Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, have been working on the case as it remains under investigation.

“The investigation into Travis Silvers’ death has remained one of our top priorities, and we are committed to finding justice for him and his family,” said a representative from the GBI. “We appreciate the continued support from the community, and we urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.”

Authorities have emphasized that the case remains under investigation, and they are actively seeking additional information. The public is encouraged to submit anonymous tips to the GBI’s tip line at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), or online via the GBI’s website or the See Something, Send Something mobile app.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be handed over to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.

As the investigation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the long road to justice, as even cold cases can experience breakthroughs after years of unanswered questions.
