Grovetown Man Arrested After Alleged Shooting Involving Sawed-Off Shotgun

Grovetown, Ga. – A Grovetown man has been arrested following a shooting incident on Sunday, April 13th, that left a 29-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the foot. The shooting occurred after a heated argument between the suspect and the victim, which quickly escalated into violence.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call regarding a shooting on the night of the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the caller informed authorities that the shooting had occurred along the 1100 block of Dodge Lane, near the Gordon Highway and Augusta State Medical Prison. Deputies later determined that the victim had encountered the suspect, 54-year-old Regis Costabile, at a nearby residence on Dodge Lane.

Costabile, who was reportedly driving a pickup truck and at the residence to drop off several items, became involved in a verbal dispute with the victim. A witness to the altercation stated that the argument escalated when Costabile allegedly retrieved a sawed-off shotgun from his truck. According to the witness, Costabile pointed the weapon at the victim before firing it, striking him in the right foot.

Further testimony revealed that Costabile had asked the victim, “Where is my money?” When the victim responded that he had no money, Costabile allegedly pulled the firearm from his pants and pointed it at a female acquaintance of the victim. The woman reportedly stepped in front of the gun, attempting to shield the victim, when the weapon was fired, injuring the victim.

Following the shooting, Costabile fled the scene but was later located by deputies on the 5500 block of Old Augusta Highway. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Costabile has been charged with several offenses, including Aggravated Assault, Pointing or Aiming a Gun or Pistol at Another, Possession of a Sawed-Off Shotgun, and several other firearm-related charges. He is currently awaiting trial.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the charges facing Costabile. The victim’s condition has not been disclosed, but law enforcement has confirmed that he is recovering from his injuries.

This incident highlights the dangers of escalating confrontations and the potential for violence when firearms are involved. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office continues to urge the public to avoid violent conflicts and to report any suspicious or dangerous behavior.
