Whataburger Employee Accused of Using Customer’s Card Information to Pay Probation Fees

NEWNAN, Ga. — A 25-year-old Whataburger employee is facing felony charges after allegedly using a customer’s debit card information to pay her probation fees, according to local authorities.

Aleefah Sumpter, a former worker at Whataburger, is wanted for felony identity theft and felony financial transaction card fraud. Authorities claim that while working at the fast-food restaurant, Sumpter stole a customer’s card details during a drive-thru transaction. The stolen information was reportedly used to pay off fees and fines associated with her probation at the Coweta County State Court Probation Office.

The crime came to light when the victim noticed an unauthorized $400 charge to CCSCPO on their account. Upon reporting the transaction, the customer informed authorities, prompting a joint investigation between the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and the Newnan Police Department.

Further investigation led to a photo line-up where the victim identified Sumpter as the employee who had handled the card and then disappeared for several minutes after processing the payment.

Sumpter’s probation officer obtained warrants for her arrest and notified her of the charges. She was scheduled to turn herself in on Friday, February 21, but failed to do so. According to investigators, Sumpter stopped responding to calls, and her family reported that she had left for Florida, allegedly for a pre-planned trip before the charges were filed.

Authorities are continuing their search for Sumpter. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact SPD Lt. Det. James McCue at 770-599-3256, Ext. 108.

The case highlights the risks associated with sharing sensitive financial information, especially in public-facing transactions like those at drive-thru windows. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to locate Sumpter and bring her to justice.
