Two Arrested in Fatal Augusta Shooting

Augusta, GA – Two individuals have been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon in Augusta.

Kyadiar Oliver, 19, and Madison Lewis Jr., 21, both of Augusta, have been charged with the murder of Damien Patrick. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported that both suspects were taken to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for questioning following the incident.

According to arrest warrants, the suspects are accused of causing Patrick’s death “with malice aforethought” by allegedly shooting him in the torso. The coroner’s office confirmed that Patrick was shot at least once before being transported to Piedmont Augusta Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at 4:27 p.m.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. at the Family Dollar located at 825 Laney Walker Boulevard. Authorities responded to the scene swiftly, with the CID arriving by 4:18 p.m. Caution tape was placed around the area shortly after 4:47 p.m.

Patrick was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled to further investigate the cause of death.

This shooting marks another chapter in what has already been a deadly start to 2025 for the CSRA region. With six murders or suspicious deaths reported in Augusta alone, alongside additional homicides in surrounding areas such as Aiken, Waynesboro, Sparta, and Monetta, the community is grappling with a rise in violent crime.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and urge anyone with information to come forward.
