Suspect Arrested in Connection with Grovetown Home Invasion and Shooting

GROVETOWN, Ga. — A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night in connection with a home invasion and shooting that occurred earlier that afternoon in Grovetown. Isaiah Bautista, of Augusta, was apprehended by authorities near Windsor Spring Road and Meadowbrook Drive in Augusta, riding in the suspect vehicle observed fleeing the scene of the incident.

According to the Grovetown Police Department, Bautista was found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest and had multiple outstanding felony warrants from both Richmond County and Reidsville. He was taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on the existing warrants. Investigators will also be seeking additional charges related to the shooting, police said.

In addition to Bautista’s arrest, law enforcement officials have released a photo of another man wanted in connection with the home invasion. The second suspect is known to frequent the Deans Bridge Road and Meadowbrook Road area in Augusta. Authorities are asking the public not to approach him and to contact 911 or the Grovetown Police Department at 706-863-1212 with any information.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday at 5:02 p.m. when police received a 911 call reporting gunfire at an apartment in the Joiner Crossing complex on Joiner Circle in Grovetown. According to Police Chief Jamey Kitchens, two unknown males entered the apartment, and one of them fired several rounds, hitting a male victim in the upper chest.

Although the victim, who was not a resident of the apartment, was conscious when emergency responders arrived, he was rushed to a local hospital for surgery. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Authorities confirmed that the apartment was occupied by multiple individuals at the time of the shooting, including an infant, who was in close proximity to the victim when the shots were fired. Fortunately, no other individuals were injured.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as Grovetown Police work to locate the second suspect involved in the incident.
