Two Dead After Boat Overturns in Screven County

SYLVANIA, Ga. – Two young men are dead after the boat they were fishing in overturned Wednesday afternoon in Screven County. The victims, identified as Demetrius Boyd, 23, and Lijahjoun Brodnex, 22, both of Screven County, were pronounced dead following the tragic incident.

According to the Screven County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services received a call at approximately 12:45 p.m. about a boat capsizing in a pond off Poor Robin Road. Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with a surviving young male who had been with the two victims. He reported that the trio had been fishing when the boat overturned.

The survivor, whose identity has not been released, managed to make it to the shore despite the harrowing circumstances. He then ran to the nearest mailbox to call 911 for help. Authorities say the young man was treated for injuries at the scene and later released.

The incident occurred on a private pond, and the boat involved was an aluminum vessel without a motor. The cause of the capsize has not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Screven County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the two victims and extended condolences to their families. The community has been left shaken by the tragic loss of the two young men.
