Two Arrested in Fatal Augusta Shooting

Augusta, Ga. — Two individuals have been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in Augusta on Wednesday afternoon. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspects as Kyadiar Oliver, 19, and Madison Lewis Jr., 21, both of Augusta. They have been charged with the murder of Damien Patrick.

According to the sheriff’s office, both Oliver and Lewis were transported to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning regarding the shooting. Authorities have not disclosed the details of the interviews, but they are believed to have been involved in the fatal incident.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. on February 5 at the Family Dollar located at 825 Laney Walker Boulevard. Investigators responded to the scene around 4:18 p.m., where caution tape was visible by 4:47 p.m. Local authorities confirmed that Patrick was shot at least once during the altercation.

Patrick, who was critically injured, was transported to Piedmont Augusta Hospital by a private vehicle. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 4:27 p.m., according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

This incident marks another tragic event in the CSRA, as the region has already seen a surge in violent crimes this year. Patrick’s death brings the total number of murders or suspicious deaths in Augusta to six, with additional homicides reported in Aiken, Waynesboro, Sparta, and Monetta. The ongoing violence in the area continues to raise concerns among local residents and law enforcement.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. As the case develops, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing those responsible for this senseless act of violence to justice.
