AUGUSTA, Ga. – Authorities are investigating the death of a 16-month-old boy in Augusta after an incident report revealed the child may have ingested methadone and another unidentified substance.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office released the report Thursday afternoon, identifying the child as Trae’son Dunn. Emergency medical personnel told deputies they suspected the toddler had consumed methadone — a medication commonly used to treat opioid addiction — as well as another substance that has not yet been publicly identified.

Dunn was pronounced dead earlier this week following the emergency response. A second child from the same home was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation to determine whether they too had ingested any drugs. No update has been given regarding that child’s condition.

Officials have not made any arrests in connection with the case, but the investigation remains active. According to the Sheriff’s Office, this marks the fourth time this year that deputies have been called to the same residence, though the nature of the previous incidents has not been disclosed.

Authorities have not confirmed whether child protective services are involved, but given the circumstances and prior law enforcement activity at the address, further action may be forthcoming.
