Thomson Man Found Dead from Gunshot Wound, Investigation Underway

THOMSON, Ga. – A shooting incident in Thomson has left a local man dead, prompting an active investigation by the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

At approximately 9:00 PM on Sunday evening, the McDuffie County Coroner’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Ridgeview Drive in Thomson. Authorities discovered 42-year-old Mario Clemons, a resident of Thomson, behind a home on the street, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

Coroner Paul Johnson officially pronounced Clemons deceased at 9:46 PM. Investigators, who arrived at the scene shortly after, are still working to identify any potential suspects and piece together the events that led to the tragic incident.

The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the GBI, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. An autopsy has been scheduled to gather further details about the cause of death.

At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
