Suspect Arrested in Connection to Sexual Assault in Augusta

Augusta, GA – A suspect has been arrested in Augusta, Georgia, following an alleged sexual assault that occurred on Friday night, according to officials from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Santo Eliezer Nina, 29, was taken into custody on Saturday and is facing charges of rape and kidnapping in connection to the incident. Authorities say the victim reported that she had gone out drinking with friends on Thursday evening, but does not recall meeting Nina during the night.

One of the victim’s friends told deputies that they had instructed Nina to stay away from the victim while they were out. However, the victim’s memory of the events is unclear, and she reportedly woke up the next morning to find Nina on top of her.

After regaining consciousness, the victim discovered her phone and wallet in Nina’s jacket pocket and her keys placed on the hood of his car. A necklace she had been wearing the previous night, however, was missing. She immediately left Nina’s home and sought medical attention at a local hospital, where deputies noted a large bruise on her arm.

Nina remains in custody at the Richmond County Jail as the investigation continues. Authorities have yet to release additional details about the case. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with further information to come forward.

The arrest serves as a reminder of the serious nature of sexual assault and the importance of supporting victims during such traumatic events. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served.
