Shooting in Augusta Leaves One Dead, Suspect Arrested

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A shooting early Saturday morning in Augusta has left one person dead and another in custody. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots at 3:06 a.m. on March 1st, at 527 Richmond Hill Road West.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 45-year-old woman, later identified as Yolanda Epps, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to WellStar MCG Health for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Epps succumbed to her injuries later that morning.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division quickly took over the investigation. Following their efforts, investigators identified and arrested 26-year-old Keondra McBride, a resident of the 500 block of Richmond Hill Road West. McBride was subsequently charged with murder and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and the Richmond County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the victim as Yolanda Epps. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.

Authorities have yet to release additional details, but they are continuing their efforts to piece together what led to the fatal incident.

The community remains in shock as the investigation unfolds, and the loss of a life has left many searching for answers.
