Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrests mother and son in 2023 homicide
Richmond, GA – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Mikeem Gaines, 22, and Garnett Gaines, 45, both of the 2800 block of Lumpkin Road, in connection with the murder of James Brinson, 42, of the 2000 block of Wharton Drive.
The arrests were made on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 5:15 p.m., following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Crime Suppression Team, and the U.S. Marshal Southeastern Fugitive Task Force.
The murder occurred on June 17, 2023, at 8:06 a.m. at 2823 Lumpkin Road. Both Gaines were charged with one count of murder and committed to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Garnett and Mikeem Gaines are mother and son.
