Masters Week Rentals: A Look at the Augusta Housing Market During Golf’s Biggest Event

AUGUSTA, Ga. – While the Masters Tournament has just wrapped up, renters are already preparing for next year’s event. Corporate Quarters, a family-owned business that has been serving the Augusta area for 30 years, helps homeowners rent out their properties during the highly anticipated week of golf.

This year, Corporate Quarters had approximately 1,500 homes available for rent to accommodate visitors from across the globe. Kelly Starr, the Director of Operations and Events for the company, emphasized the importance of working with a local agency when renting out a home during the Masters. “Especially a local agency; that way, you know who’s going to be in your home. There is a contract in place that covers anything that were to go wrong,” Starr explained.

For many homeowners like Mindy Toole, renting their properties is more than just a business opportunity—it’s also a way to protect their investments. “We absolutely use an agency, and really, so, I’m a CPA. Protect yourself,” Toole said. She and her husband purchased a house in Champions Retreat with the intention of renting it out during Masters Week. Their decision was influenced by the well-known “Augusta Rule,” which allows property owners to rent their homes for up to 14 days without facing taxation.

“We already kind of knew about the Augusta Rule, but until you get down here and really live it, you don’t quite understand like, ‘Oh no, it’s an industry,’” Toole added. The Augusta Rule has made the area’s short-term rental market particularly attractive to homeowners, who can cover improvements, pay off parts of their mortgage, or even enjoy a vacation by renting their homes for the event.

For visitors, the appeal of Augusta’s rental homes lies in the opportunity to enjoy luxurious amenities. Many renters are looking for properties with outdoor areas, pools, and well-maintained landscaping, but one feature stands out above all: en-suite bathrooms in bedrooms. “These clients may not know each other as they’re here to network and go to the tournament, but then also they’re here to gain business or win business,” Starr noted.

Despite the challenges posed by weather events like Hurricane Helene, which affected the area in the past, most homeowners were able to get their properties ready in time for Masters Week. “Many of our homeowners were able to get those repairs done in time. Whether it was a roof or outdoor kitchen or a pool that was destroyed, they were able to get that done,” Starr explained.

As the Masters Tournament continues to attract global visitors year after year, Augusta’s home rental market remains a lucrative business for local homeowners. With proper planning and the support of agencies like Corporate Quarters, renting a home for Masters Week is a win-win for both owners and guests.
