Man Indicted for Threatening Augusta National Golf Club Employee

Augusta, GA – A 48-year-old man from North Dakota has been indicted on charges related to making violent threats against an employee of the Augusta National Golf Club. Joseph Armand Zimmer was arrested in Las Vegas on April 8, 2025, and faces federal charges of Threats in Interstate Communication.

The indictment stems from a phone call Zimmer made to the renowned golf club on February 18, 2025, during which he allegedly made several violent threats toward the employee who answered the call. According to the details presented in court, Zimmer threatened to “throw [the individual] in a cell and have [her] set on fire” and also threatened to “blow [her] head off.”

Zimmer was taken into custody in Las Vegas and appeared in federal court in Nevada on April 9 for an initial hearing. He will be required to appear in the Southern District of Georgia to face the charge.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, Lyons, emphasized the seriousness of threats made against members of the community. “Those who make threats against members of our community in violation of federal law will be held accountable,” said Lyons. “We continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and bring to justice those who seek to intimidate and instill fear in our citizens.”

The FBI is handling the investigation into the case, underscoring the agency’s commitment to responding swiftly and seriously to threats made through electronic means. Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta office, noted, “The FBI treats threatening communications with the utmost seriousness and will dedicate all available resources to locating and prosecuting those responsible for such actions.”

Zimmer, if convicted, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
