Georgia Governor Appoints Josh Lamb as New Director of GEMA

Augusta, GA – Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced on Tuesday the appointment of Lt. Col. Josh Lamb as the new director of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA). Lamb, a seasoned public safety official, will succeed Chris Stallings, who was recently appointed by President Donald Trump to a role with the Small Business Administration.

GEMA is responsible for coordinating the state’s efforts in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, including those related to hurricanes, winter storms, and other emergencies. As Georgia continues its recovery from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and other recent disasters, the appointment of Lamb comes at a critical time.

In a press release, Governor Kemp expressed his confidence in Lamb’s ability to lead the agency. “I’m honored to welcome Lt. Col. Lamb to GEMA and thank him for stepping into this important leadership role that is critical to the safety and recovery of Georgia’s communities, especially as we continue to rebuild from Hurricane Helene and other storms,” Kemp said. “I know Lt. Col. Lamb is committed to that mission and will provide the leadership necessary to ensure our state is prepared to respond to disaster and proactively keep Georgians safe.”

Lamb brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A former sergeant with the Georgia State Patrol and a member of the Georgia SWAT Team, Lamb has a deep background in law enforcement and emergency response. He later joined the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS), where he served as a lieutenant in the Planning and Research Unit. Most recently, he held the position of assistant commissioner at DPS, a role he began in October 2023.

With his extensive experience in law enforcement, emergency management, and strategic planning, Lamb is expected to play a pivotal role in leading Georgia’s disaster response efforts. His leadership will be crucial as the state continues to strengthen its preparedness and resilience in the face of future challenges.

As Georgia recovers from natural disasters and prepares for potential future crises, Lamb’s appointment signals a commitment to ensuring that the state remains proactive in safeguarding its communities.
