Deadly Shooting in Newington, Georgia Leaves One Dead, Authorities Search for Suspect

NEWINGTON, GA – A fatal shooting on Simpsontown Road in Newington, Georgia, has left a 21-year-old man dead, and local authorities are now seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect responsible.

According to the Screven County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:55 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the victim, identified as Isaiah Barbee, Jr., a resident of Sylvania, Georgia, suffering from a gunshot wound. Barbee was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

As of 7:45 p.m. on the same day, the sheriff’s office confirmed that they were searching for a male suspect in the vicinity of Simpsontown Road near Red Field Road. Authorities have urged residents in the area to secure their homes and report any suspicious activity to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to assist with the case, and Barbee’s body has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
