CSRA Area Agency on Aging Hosts 2025 Elder Rights Conference in Grovetown

GROVETOWN, Ga. — The CSRA Area Agency on Aging held its 2025 Elder Rights Conference on Wednesday at the Columbia County Exhibition Center, drawing attention to the growing concerns surrounding elder abuse and the challenges faced by the nation’s rapidly aging population.

Keynote speaker Candace Heisler, a retired prosecutor from San Francisco, emphasized the urgency of addressing elder rights in the face of demographic shifts. “Our country is growing old. We’re aging rapidly. And soon there will be more older people than there are younger people,” Heisler stated during her address.

She stressed the collective responsibility to recognize and respond to instances where older adults are harmed. “So when bad things happen to older people, we all need to address it to be aware of it, to be on the lookout for it, and to support the people who are being harmed,” Heisler said.

The conference provided a platform for experts, advocates, and community members to discuss strategies for preventing elder abuse and improving resources available to seniors. As the elderly population continues to grow, events like this highlight the importance of education and advocacy in protecting vulnerable adults.
