Community Rallies to Support Families of Fallen Deputies at Columbia County Unity Fundraiser
COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. – The Columbia County community is coming together to support the families of Deputy Brandon Sikes and Deputy Gavin White, who were involved in a tragic incident over the weekend. To aid the families during this difficult time, a Unity Fundraiser has been organized, set to take place on May 10th at Augusta Christian Schools.
The event promises to be a heartwarming display of community solidarity, with various activities aimed at raising money for the deputies’ families. Attendees can look forward to a silent auction, a car show, and a host of local businesses contributing to the cause. Additionally, food trucks will be on-site, with 20% of their proceeds also going towards the families in need. For families attending, there will be bouncy houses for children, creating a family-friendly atmosphere.
Corey Lichtenberg, one of the fundraiser’s organizers, emphasized the event’s primary goal: to unite the community in support of the families. “We are really just trying to be the bridge to bring everybody together, support the families, and raise some money to help them through the times ahead,” said Lichtenberg.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 100% of all donations and proceeds from the event will be directed to the families of the two deputies. Tickets for the silent auction are already available, with further details on how to donate or purchase tickets found on Lichtenberg’s Facebook page.
Bo Chavous, another organizer, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support the event has already received. “We’ve gotten a ton of support from our community, and we’re proud that everyone is stepping up for a great cause,” said Chavous. Chavous also highlighted the importance of the event as a way to show respect for the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers, especially following the shooting incident.
Chavous, whose family has a long history of law enforcement service, explained that he and his parents, who worked for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, understand the emotional toll these families are facing. “We understand a lot of what the families are going through right now. We understand what their needs could be right now, and we’re just doing whatever we can to help,” Chavous said.
Lichtenberg, who has had personal experiences with law enforcement throughout his life, echoed Chavous’ sentiment. “Even though the problems I have had in my life, I’ve known a lot of good servants of law enforcement who have supported me in my journey,” he added.
The fundraiser is more than just a charitable event—it is a tribute to the courage and dedication of the officers, as well as a show of support for their families during a time of unimaginable grief. Community members, local businesses, and veterans have all come together to ensure the deputies’ families are not left to face this tragedy alone.
