Community Gathers in Augusta for Gun Violence Awareness Event
AUGUSTA, Ga. – In a powerful show of unity and remembrance, community members, elected officials, and advocacy groups will gather in downtown Augusta on Friday, June 6, for an “Evening of Remembrance and Call to Action,” organized by Moms Demand Action and Georgia Shift.
The event, which coincides with National Gun Violence Awareness Month, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater & Plaza, located at 15 8th Street. It is free and open to the public.
Local leaders expected to attend include Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley, several Augusta Commissioners, members of the judiciary, and prominent faith leaders. Organizers say the evening will serve both as a tribute to those lost to gun violence and as a rallying cry for community-driven solutions to gun-related tragedies.
A symbolic balloon release will be held during the event, and attendees are encouraged to wear orange — the official color of the national gun violence awareness movement.
“This gathering is about honoring lives lost, supporting survivors, and recommitting ourselves to action,” said a representative from Moms Demand Action. “Gun violence affects every corner of our community, and together we can push for change.”
The event comes amid a nationwide surge in grassroots efforts aimed at curbing gun violence through policy reform, education, and community engagement.
