Columbia County Spring Fair Implements New Safety Measures Following Weekend Disruption

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. – Organizers of the Columbia County Spring Fair are making significant changes to their attendance policies following reports of disruptive behavior by large groups of unaccompanied youths last weekend. The updates, announced in a public statement, aim to enhance safety and maintain a family-friendly environment for all attendees.

The changes will go into effect this weekend and include stricter entry requirements for minors. Starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, all guests aged 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each parent will be allowed to supervise a maximum of four children. Additionally, guests between the ages of 11 and 17 must purchase admission and ride tickets at the gate in order to enter the fairgrounds. Identification will also be required for individuals 18 and older.

The new policies come after attendees reported seeing a firearm or hearing gunshots during last weekend’s events. However, investigators from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said there is no evidence confirming that any weapons were shown or discharged at the fair.

In response to the concerns, the sheriff’s office has announced plans to increase law enforcement presence at the fairgrounds throughout the remainder of the event.

Organizers emphasized their commitment to providing a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors. “Our goal in producing the Columbia County Fair is to provide a fun, family-friendly, safe experience for everyone,” the statement read. “Due to the number of unattended youths last Saturday that seemed intent on disrupting the fair, we feel these changes are necessary.”

The Columbia County Spring Fair runs through Sunday, April 27. For additional details, attendees are encouraged to visit the official website at https://columbiacountyfair.net.
