Child injured after accidental shooting involving unsecured firearm
Augusta, GA – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 7-year-old child was injured in an accidental shooting on March 29, 2026.
Deputies responded around 3:25 p.m. to the 200 block of Sapelo Circle, where they learned a 9-year-old had found a firearm belonging to his mother’s boyfriend and began playing with it.
Authorities said the weapon discharged, striking the 7-year-old in the finger.
The injured child was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigative Division, and no additional information has been released.
