AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Thursday that a deceased person was discovered on the 1200 block of Interstate Parkway. The body, identified as a male, was found in a wooded area by a surveyor team at approximately 2:24 p.m. on January 23.

Deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report of a suspicious situation. Upon arrival, they were informed by the surveyors about the discovery of the body. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Coroner Mark Bowen stated that the death is being treated as suspicious, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. Investigators are continuing their work at the scene as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
