Augusta Woman Arrested for DUI and Multiple Traffic Violations Near Gate 5

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A 35-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday, April 8, near Gate 5 of the Augusta National Golf Club after being accused of driving under the influence (DUI) and several other traffic violations, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO).

Julie T. Dicks, of Augusta, was reportedly observed by an RCSO deputy traveling in the center turn lane on Washington Road, allegedly using it to bypass traffic. The deputy initiated a traffic stop after witnessing the behavior. However, Dicks turned into Gate 5 near Old Berckmans Road, where she encountered a dead end.

Dicks was subsequently taken into custody without incident and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. In addition to the DUI charge, she faces charges of reckless driving, failure to yield from a stop sign, violation of no passing zones, failure to wear a seatbelt, and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.

The RCSO confirmed that Dicks was previously arrested for DUI on February 17, 2025.

Authorities reassured the public that no patrons or members of the public were at risk during the incident. “At no point during this event were patrons or members of the public placed at risk,” a statement from the RCSO read. “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office works in close partnership with Augusta National Security to ensure the safety of all patrons during the Masters Tournament.”

The arrest took place during the busy Masters Tournament week, a time when Augusta sees a large influx of visitors. The sheriff’s office continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining public safety during major events in the city.
