Augusta Woman Arrested After Shooting Man in Domestic Dispute
AUGUSTA, Ga. – A woman has been arrested following a shooting on Saturday in Augusta.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Harvest Point Way.
According to authorities, 46-year-old Stephanie New was taken into custody after she allegedly shot 48-year-old Hallart Wilson during a domestic altercation.
Deputies were called to the scene after New reportedly shot Wilson during a confrontation that began with a verbal dispute.
New told deputies that the altercation began when Wilson tried to go through her phone, prompting a heated argument. She claimed that after refusing his request, Wilson physically choked her.
According to New, Wilson then attempted to destroy her phone, and the two fought over a firearm.
New stated that Wilson came toward her again, leading her to shoot him in what she described as self-defense.
Wilson was transported to Doctors Hospital of Augusta to receive treatment for his injuries.
His current condition remains unclear.
New is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released further details surrounding the incident.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the shooting and has not provided additional information at this time.
