Augusta Regional Airport Closes Due to Winter Storm, Flights Canceled

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta Regional Airport shut down Tuesday night as a winter storm swept through the region, bringing bitter cold temperatures and up to 3 inches of snow. The closure, which is scheduled to last until 10 a.m. Wednesday, was implemented due to hazardous runway conditions, according to airport officials. The timeline of the closure is subject to change, depending on how the weather evolves overnight.

Airport staff remained on site to assess conditions throughout the night. The closure followed a series of cancellations earlier in the day, as the airport had already grounded all remaining commercial flights for Tuesday. By late afternoon, Augusta Regional announced that all flights for the rest of the day were canceled. At least six inbound flights and five outbound flights had already been affected by the winter weather as of Tuesday morning.

The storm also caused widespread disruptions at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed. Many passengers traveling from Augusta Regional connect through Atlanta, a Delta hub, or Charlotte, an American Airlines hub, where the weather also caused significant travel delays.

As the region faces more wintry conditions, travelers are advised to monitor flight status and airport announcements for further updates.
