Augusta Parents Arrested for Allegedly Beating 13-Year-Old Daughter

AUGUSTA, Ga. — A 13-year-old girl and her brother are currently in temporary foster care after authorities reported that they were allegedly abused by their parents. The incident occurred on March 5 at the family’s home on Taylor Street in Augusta, Georgia.

According to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the 13-year-old girl was held down by her father, Ulysses Rhyne III, while her mother, Yolanda Rhyne, allegedly beat the child with an extension cord. Authorities noted that the victim suffered bruises to both the front and back of her legs, as well as on her back.

Both Yolanda and Ulysses Rhyne have been arrested and charged with 1st Degree Cruelty to Children. The couple is currently being held in custody, pending further legal proceedings.

Yolanda Rhyne, who had worked for the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) in the past, is now under scrutiny due to her professional background. The situation has raised questions regarding how the abuse occurred despite her role in child welfare.

The children, who are now in temporary foster care, are reportedly safe and receiving the necessary care. Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the case, and the investigation is ongoing.

This case has shocked the local community, raising concerns about the vulnerability of children, even in homes where one parent is employed within the child welfare system. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the full scope of the situation to ensure justice for the victims.
