Augusta Man Dies After Shooting in Downtown Area

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A man who was critically injured in a shooting in downtown Augusta last weekend has died from his injuries. Authorities have identified the victim as 61-year-old Tracy Waddell.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 19th, near the 900 block of Broad Street, an area known for its bars and clubs. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Waddell was shot in the head as bars and nightlife establishments were closing.

Emergency responders quickly transported Waddell to WellStar MCG, where he was later pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. that same afternoon, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No arrests have been made as of yet.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in resolving the case.
