Augusta Authorities Arrest Two Individuals After Standoff on Clark Street

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A law enforcement operation in Augusta early Monday morning led to the arrest of two individuals, including a wanted man, following a barricade situation at a residence on the 2000 block of Clark Street.

At approximately 7:15 a.m., members of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, along with agents from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, arrived at the home to arrest 58-year-old James Jackson. Jackson was wanted for federal probation violations related to narcotics and weapons possession. Authorities had also flagged Jackson for a history of resisting arrest and fleeing from law enforcement.

As officers attempted to apprehend Jackson, the situation quickly escalated, prompting him to barricade himself inside the residence. In response, the Richmond County SWAT Team was called in to assist.

After a brief standoff, authorities deployed tear gas into the residence at approximately 8:03 a.m. Within minutes, Jackson was safely taken into custody without further incident.

In addition to Jackson’s arrest, 40-year-old Monica Rihm was taken into custody at the scene. She was arrested on an order to show cause and probation violation charges related to narcotics.

Both individuals were transported for processing, and authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed in connection with the incident.

The operation, though tense, ended without any injuries, and law enforcement officials praised the professionalism and coordination of the involved teams. The investigation into the criminal activities of Jackson and Rihm is ongoing.
