SRP Credit Union Supports Financial Literacy Tour for Local Students

Burke County, Ga. – In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering the next generation with essential money management skills, SRP Credit Union has backed a new financial literacy tour across Burke County. The program, designed to teach students valuable lessons in investing, credit, insurance, and real estate, is making a significant impact on the community.

The tour, which reaches schools throughout the area, is not only educational but also provides practical resources to young learners. Each student receives a financial literacy book, with 200 copies distributed throughout the program. Additionally, the tour awards savings accounts to students, each funded with $25. In total, the initiative has set up $5,000 in savings accounts for local students, giving them an opportunity to start building their financial future early.

Prince Dykes, the founder of the Global Children’s Financial Literacy Foundation, expressed his excitement about the project’s potential to create lasting change in the lives of young people. “Financial literacy is a critical skill that every child should have access to,” Dykes said. “By introducing these concepts early on, we’re equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in the real world.”

The tour has gained the support of key local figures, including Burke County Schools Superintendent Dr. Angela Williams and Dr. Willie Adkinson, the principal of Burke County Middle School. The initiative was also championed by Grace Helms, AVP of Community Development at SRP Federal Credit Union. All were present for the launch of the project, which was featured on Good Morning Augusta over the weekend.

“The importance of teaching financial literacy cannot be overstated,” said Dr. Williams. “This program helps students understand how to manage money, make informed decisions, and set financial goals – skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.”

The collaboration between SRP Credit Union, local schools, and the Global Children’s Financial Literacy Foundation marks a significant step forward in addressing the financial education gap for students. With plans to expand the tour in the future, the initiative hopes to reach even more children across the region.

As the financial literacy tour continues to make its way through Burke County, students are not only gaining crucial knowledge but also developing a sense of financial responsibility that will stay with them for years to come.
