Deputy-Involved Shooting Near Glenn Hills Middle School Under Investigation

Augusta, GA – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the vicinity of Glenn Hills Middle School on Monday. The incident unfolded after deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Primrose Drive. According to authorities, the female complainant reported that a male suspect, known to her, had stolen her firearm before fleeing the scene.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies began searching for the suspect, who was last seen walking on Glenn Hills Drive, just outside the school. A responding deputy located the suspect and attempted to make contact. However, the suspect reportedly pulled a firearm from his waistband, prompting the deputy to discharge his weapon. The suspect was struck by the gunfire and was immediately transported to Doctors Hospital in critical condition.

In response to the shooting, a representative from the Richmond County School System issued a statement confirming that the incident occurred outside the school grounds. The statement assured the public that all students and staff at Glenn Hills Middle School were safe. As a precautionary measure, classroom transitions were limited, and outdoor activities were suspended for the remainder of the school day.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that the deputy’s body-worn camera was activated during the interaction and has been turned over to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigation Team for further review. The District Attorney’s Office has also been notified of the incident.
