One Dead After Pursuit Ends in Crash in Harlem, Georgia

HARLEM, Ga. — A man is dead following a high-speed pursuit with deputies that ended in a crash Monday afternoon in Harlem, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 4:15 p.m., authorities received information that a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 41-year-old Shawn E. Threatt of Milledgeville, was involved in the pursuit. Threatt had multiple active felony warrants across several jurisdictions, including Columbia County, Grovetown, Waynesboro, and the Georgia Department of Parole.

The chase began at the intersection of Appling Harlem Road and West Forrest Street before continuing along North Fairview Drive. Deputies reported that Threatt eventually drove south on Sawdust Road. As the pursuit continued, a deputy traveling in the opposite direction was struck head-on by Threatt’s vehicle.

The crash resulted in significant damage, and Threatt was transported to Doctor’s Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. Despite efforts to save him, Threatt was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The deputy, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the hospital for an evaluation by fellow officers from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not yet disclosed the deputy’s current condition.

The incident remains under investigation, and the sheriff’s office is working with the coroner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.

This marks a tragic outcome of what began as a pursuit for a suspect with several active felony warrants. Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
