EEOC Dismisses Discrimination and Harassment Claims Against Burke County Sheriff

WAYNESBORO, Ga. – A federal investigator with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has dismissed a discrimination and sexual harassment claim filed against Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams. The decision, issued on September 23, 2024, comes after a thorough investigation into the allegations.

In a letter sent to the complainant, the EEOC stated that after a “careful and thorough review” of the submitted documents and evidence in the case, the agency concluded that it was “not likely that further investigation would yield evidence to show that a violation occurred.” As a result, the EEOC determined that no further action was warranted, and the charge was officially dismissed.

The dismissal marks the conclusion of an inquiry into the sheriff’s conduct, which had raised concerns regarding potential discrimination and sexual harassment. The EEOC’s decision signals that the investigation did not find sufficient evidence to substantiate the claims brought forward.

Sheriff Williams has not publicly commented on the dismissal, but this outcome clears him of any federal violation in relation to the charges. The dismissal closes the case, as the EEOC has decided that no further action will be pursued.
